A review of evidence by Australian experts has found that digital interventions, including apps, chatbots and online programs, can have a moderate impact on core eating disorder symptoms. The researchers looked at data across 36 trials and found that these digital tools produced significant improvements in primary eating disorder symptoms and objective binge eating outcomes, as well as other mental health outcomes. The authors say this highlights that they are a scalable, flexible, and inexpensive format for narrowing the eating disorder treatment gap.
