Australian LGBTQ+ community members felt the controversial Religious Discrimination Bill of 2022 was introduced as a form of pushback on their rights following marriage equality, according to a survey from Newcastle. Australian researchers interviewed 29 LGBTQ+ people about their experiences during the marriage equality debate, and asked them about the concept of 'resurgent prejudice' - where progress on LGBTQ+ rights is met with an attempt to restrict their rights elsewhere. The researchers say there is a belief within the community that elements of the Religious Discrimination Bill was resurgent prejudice, something that can restrict the efforts of advocates and activists.
