Vaccinated individuals are less likely to contract COVID-19 after attending a spreader event, according to a case study of a US wedding where half the guests contracted the Delta variant. Researchers say an unvaccinated child was the likely index case of the spreader event, where 75 per cent of guests were vaccinated. Of the 62 attendees tested for COVID-19, 29 tested positive. 16 of 46 fully vaccinated people tested positive, two of four partially vaccinated people tested positive and 11 of 12 unvaccinated people tested positive. While this data is from one small event, the researchers say it shows the potential for children to spread the virus, the virus to spread among highly vaccinated groups and the additional risk of contracting the virus for those who are unvaccinated.
