New Zealand researchers recommend a DHB test a programme of proactively handing out contraceptives to teens, in order to reduce the country's high unwanted teen pregnancy rate. Bioethics and women’s health researchers propose a proactive contraception provision model to make it easier for young Kiwis to access birth control, drawing from a promising international approach. They reviewed existing examples and local research, concluding that NZ adolescents and GPs supported the youth-centred approach and the ethical case was favourable.
