People volunteering in conservation felt the environment was in a worse state compared to other Kiwis, finds a 2018 survey of nearly 1,000 volunteers. These volunteers endorsed Predator Free 2050 aspirations and some said they felt personally responsible for the environment, referring to the Māori concept of kaitiakitanga. However they were less confident that Predator Free goals will be achieved by 2050. Compared to the wider population, conservation volunteers were typically older, richer, rural and retired.
