The 'flu hit Australia hard in 2017, with 249,882 confirmed cases and 1,100 deaths, but what can we expect this time around? As the government gears up to provide three million older Aussies with two new 'flu vaccines, join us to find out what we can expect this season. Hear the latest on the virus, the vaccines, who's most at risk, and how to stay safe.

The briefing will discuss the following issues:

  • The latest 'flu facts and figures
  • Who is most at risk?
  • What's new about the 2018 'flu vaccines?
  • How important is getting the 'flu shot?
  • How likely are Australians to get vaccinated?
  • What's stopping Australians from getting themselves and their kids vaccinated?
  • What can health professionals do to help?

Speakers:

  • Laureate Professor Peter Doherty is from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne, is Patron of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and is a past winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
  • Professor Robert Booy is at the University of Sydney and is the Director of the Immunisation Coalition
