BRIEFING: CO2 emissions reaching pre-pandemic levels - Annual Global Carbon Budget

Publicly released:
Australia; ACT

*Briefing recording now available* We know that emissions are still going up globally, but where are they coming from and what is the best 'bang for buck' in bringing emissions down quickly enough to avoid the worst impacts of climate change? The Global Carbon Project, headquartered in Canberra, will release their annual carbon budget on Thursday, with data and analysis of 2021 carbon emissions, with a focus on the major emitters - China, USA, EU27 and India. The report will also offer vital new information on rates of deforestation, and the continued high global use of coal, oil, and gas to fuel our economies and explore Australia's options.
