Breakthrough infections boost COVID-19 antibodies even if symptoms are mild

Antibodies against COVID-19 are boosted following a breakthrough infection - infections that occur after being fully vaccinated - even though the symptoms of these infections are largely mild, according to US research. The study also found that blood serum from people who had Delta breakthrough infections had antibodies with improved potency against Delta compared to the original Wuhan strain, suggesting that developing boosters matched to emerging variants may help broaden our protective immune response.
