A non-invasive magnetic brain stimulation treatment could help reduce the frequency of hearing voices for people with schizophrenia, according to international researchers. The team recruited 62 people with schizophrenia who have auditory hallucinations, and treated half of them for two weeks with the targeted brain stimulation while the other half received a fake treatment. The researchers say after the two weeks, the group who received the real treatment showed a greater reduction in hallucinations, and this pattern still existed a month after the treatment ended. They say a stronger electric field also appeared to be more effective.
