Australian Federal Government investment in tobacco addiction treatment falls short of recommended levels, and is inconsistent with best-practice evidence, according to Australian experts. The researchers say that while tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in Australia, Government spending on tobacco addiction treatment falls well short of levels recommended by the World Health Organization. They say that much greater investment would help the Australian Federal Government to meet its commitments to support Australians to quit smoking.
