Two in five Aussies believed cannabis should be legalised in 2019, compared to one in five in 2007, according to Australian research. The team looked at surveys on drug attitudes conducted throughout the 2010s to see how opinions have changed over the past decade. They say that while support for legalising other drugs like ecstasy and cocaine is still low, there is growing support for a less punitive approach for people who do take these drugs. The researchers add that this push towards more lenient punishments for drug use does not appear to extend to heroin or ice (methamphetamines).
