A US study of around 125,000 adults aged an average of 62 years-old found that those living in neighbourhoods that became poorer over time became more likely to gain weight excessively as socioeconomic conditions worsened. The converse was also true: in neighbourhoods that became wealthier, older people became less likely to gain weight excessively. The results highlight the relationship between poverty and the likelihood of obesity.
