A survey of 4024 pregnant Aussies in one district of NSW found 1.24% were using e-cigarettes, and more than half of them (52%) were using e-cigs to quit smoking regular cigarettes. Current or ex-smokers were the most likely to use e-cigs, the study authors say. The findings suggest Australian rates of e-cigarette use and dual-use (using both e-cigs and regular cigarettes) during pregnancy are lower than they are internationally, but Aussies are mainly using them for the same reason - as a smoking cessation aid. As bans on e-cigs come in here, larger-scale studies are needed to monitor e-cig and dual-use during pregnancy among Australians, the authors conclude.
