In 2019, the Australian government adopted targets aimed at effectively eliminating the practice of admitting people under 65 with disabilities to residential aged care, where they tend to experience a poorer quality of life than other care settings would provide. Australian researchers looked at what progress had been made since those targets, with over 4,500 young people living in aged care across the country. They found new admissions halved from 2018 to 2020, but little had been done so far to relocate those already in aged care to a more suitable arrangement.
