The pay gaps between different ethnic groups in Aotearoa are mostly due to pay differences inside firms, according to a new working paper. Researchers looked at workers' earnings by ethnicity and gender, finding that the main source of ethnic wage gaps is within workplaces, rather than from some ethnic groups tending to work in higher paying places than others. The ethnicity pay gap was also bigger among men. The report authors say measures to address issues within firms could help reduce these inequities.
