Antibodies present in breastmilk after Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination

Publicly released:
International

Breast milk from women vaccinated with the Pfizer COVID vaccine contains specific antibodies against the virus, however it is not yet known if this would help keep babies healthy or give them any level of immunity. The study of 33 breastfeeding mothers found that antibodies were present after the first dose but they increased after the second dose and were reflected in the level found in the blood. The authors say larger studies are needed to confirm the safety of vaccination in individuals who are breastfeeding and further assess any link with infants’ health and immunity.
