In a small, Chinese study funded by the drug's manufacturer, a Type 2 diabetes drug called tirzepatide - commonly sold under the names Mounjaro and Zepbound - has been found to be effective in helping people with obesity or overweight, but not diabetes, lose weight. Similar to Ozempic (semaglutide) the drug is delivered by weekly injections, and in the study, the researchers have found people to be able to cut down 13.6% and 17.5% of their body weight after a year, when using tirzepatide at 10mg and 15mg doses, respectively, compared with 2.3% for participants using a placebo.
