AI links markers of inflammation to Parkinson's risk

Australian researchers have used AI to identify biological markers that might indicate people at higher risk of developing Parkinson's disease. By looking at the health measurements of over 300,000 people they identified that having higher levels of inflammatory markers such as insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), lymphocyte count, and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio were linked to an increased risk of Parkinson's. The authors say these results support the idea that Parkinson's is linked to inflammatory disease.  They say these biomarkers could be used to predict future Parkinson's disease risk, improve early diagnosis and may even point to new treatment options.
