The first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine can begin reducing infection rates after eight days, according to a US study. Researchers monitored the rollout of the vaccine for healthcare workers in Boston, where vaccinations began in the midst of an early winter surge in COVID-19 cases. Across the 42 day study, beginning the day vaccines were made available, researchers found the vaccine was 50.3 per cent effective across the entire period, 77.5 per cent effective from day eight onwards and 95 per cent effective from day 15 until the end of the study.
