Interventions aimed at helping primary school-aged children with their shyness can help reduce anxiety, social phobia and mental health issues, according to a systematic review of studies on the topic. Researchers looked at 25 studies trialing interventions for children aged 6-12 to help with their shyness, and found these were all able to reduce the negative impacts of shyness. These studies were mostly weekly programs within a school setting using techniques like exposure, peer mediation, psychoeducation and cognitive restricting.
