Flu vaccines in California in 2024-25 cut the risk of infection by 40% overall, and cut the risk of dying from flu among the over 65s by 29%, according to US scientists. They linked flu test results and immunisation records for 1,106,628 Californians, finding that flu vaccines were 40% effective in preventing cases overall. The results suggest vaccination can provide partial protection against illness and death caused by the flu strains that were circulating in California during the winter of 2024 to 2025, the authors conclude.
