Top scientists write open letter on Australian bushfires and climate

Embargoed until: Publicly released:

Eighty of Australia's top scientists have written an open letter to the Australian public and politicians, urging action on carbon emissions following the horrendous bushfire season. They say that while they welcome current government actions, this alone is not enough, as the current impacts are happening after just 1°C of global temperature rise, and the world is set for at least another 1°C increase unless strong action is taken to reduce emissions. The scientists warn that if action is not taken, conditions may become so bad that humans may no longer be able to adapt.
