Restaurant staff don't understand or believe in your food allergy
A German study of 285 restaurant staff found less than a third knew about three common food allergens, and nearly two-thirds couldn't answer five true-or-false questions about food allergies. They also found a third of staff believed drinking water would help with an allergic reaction, potentially delaying a lifesaving ambulance call. Although the staff generally acknowledged their responsibility towards customers with allergies, they didn't like serving diners with allergies, and tended not to believe that diners' allergies were more than a figment of their imaginations.
