How much is student debt affecting wellbeing?
The debt New Zealand students face today is unprecedented and there's limited understanding around the impact it has on their wellbeing, authors state in a research article. Although it's often labelled 'good debt', results from 70 in-depth interviews with university students between 2014 and 2015 found many didn't feel this way, and felt their student debt limited their academic and social life during their time at university. The authors say there's a need to bridge the gaps with further research, particularly in light of current debates about 'free fees'.
