How can we stop learner drivers crashing?

Embargoed until: Publicly released:
Peer-reviewed: This work was reviewed and scrutinised by relevant independent experts.

US researchers suggest that teens behind the wheel could reduce their chances of getting into a crash by making sure they practice consistently and reduce any abrupt manoeuvres. The team found that, as expected, thrill-seeking learners were the most likely to crash, but those who performed quick manoeuvres such as fast lane changes or cornering were at a high risk also. The team says parents should help their teens practice often and discourage them from undertaking abrupt manoeuvres.
