Peer-reviewed: This work was reviewed and scrutinised by relevant independent experts.

Experimental study: At least one thing in the experiment was changed to see if it had an impact on the subjects (often people or animals) – eg: changing the amount of time mice spend on an exercise wheel to find out what impact it has on weight loss.

People: This is a study based on research using people.

Good news for middle aged men in Lycra (MAMILs) - stopping for a cup of coffee on that morning ride may actually help your cycling performance. Australian research has shown that caffeine improved power output by 8 per cent in a cycling time trial. The researchers found that cyclists attacked the first kilometre of a 4km time trial more aggressively when they ingested caffeine rather than a placebo.
