Professor David Mackey AO will be giving an interactive lecture entitled “Why do you wear glasses?” at the Lions Eye Institute.
You can learn about the Optics, History and Fashion of spectacles as well as the research into the Genetic and Environmental factors responsible for one of the biggest Epidemics ever seen being the dramatic rise in global rates of Myopia. Also learn about research into treatments to prevent myopia and the alternatives to glasses.
Professor Mackey is the former managing director of the Lions Eye Institute, who stepped down to take up an NHMRC practitioner fellowship to continue his 30 year work into the genetic and environmental factors causing eye diseases particularly glaucoma and myopia.
