In a world of fake news and misinformation, determining the accuracy of claims made by public figures, politicians, advocacy bodies and other institutions engaged in civic and public debate is crucial for the construction of our narratives and to inform better decision-making for all Australians. Assessing the veracity of public claims in the new ecology of news reporting will play a significant role on the interplay of facts, opinion and power.
Join Professor Andrew Dodd from the University of Melbourne, Misha Ketchell from The Conversation and Dr Alex Wake from RMIT University as they address questions that are critical for upholding press and democratic liberties, including the role of fact-checking and research in journalism, the interplay between democracy and journalism, and the role of the community towards monitoring free speech. This thought-provoking conversation will be moderated by Sushi Das from RMIT ABC Fact Check.
Please join us for refreshments following the panel discussion.
