Launceston, along with nine other Australian cities, will host one of more than 400 worldwide March for Science events next month. The march will bring science enthusiasts from all walks of life together to champion science and highlight its importance to society.

Sparked by a thread on Reddit, the March for Science is a grassroots movement championing publicly communicated and adequately funded science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. It began as a single event in Washington DC and has grown to become a global movement. To date 44 countries will host marches on 22 April, coinciding with Earth Day.

The March for Science is nonpartisan. It calls for all political leaders and policymakers to adopt evidence-based policies in the public interest.

Australia’s marches are aimed at highlighting the need for stable investment in science, a commitment to higher levels of scientific literacy through education, open communication of scientific findings, and public policy to be guided by evidence.

No one’s life is untouched by science. March for Science asks all Australians to join us on 22 April to ensure that scientific endeavour for the good of all prevails.
