Spotlight on science education

Every eight years, CONASTA, the national conference of the Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA), comes to Sydney.

Nearly six hundred science educators from New South Wales and every state in Australia will converge on Sydney to discuss, experience, network and participate in over 120 diverse workshops at CONASTA 67.

“Delegates who attend CONASTA say that it is a great opportunity to get together with your peers, listen to some great keynotes, visit trade displays and meet others and share ideas”, notes Victor Dobos, CEO of ASTA.

The theme of the conference is ‘spotlight on our future, chosen to inspire all educators to focus on the influence of science in their lives.   “CONASTA 67 will celebrate the successes of science, particularly Australian science, and will explore the vital role of science in our future”, says Margaret Shepherd, President of the Science Teachers Association of New South Wales.

CONASTA has attracted strong support through the Australian Government Department of Education and Training, who are major sponsors of the national event.

The University of Sydney is a proud partner and sponsor of this event, offering its world-class facilities, and some of Australia’s most prestigious scientists and educators to help delegates learn about the work they conduct and the way the engage with the education sector.

The line-up of keynote speakers is exceptional and includes Dr Alan Finkel, Australia’s Chief Scientist, Professor Lisa Harvey Smith from CSIRO, Dr Tanya Latty from the University of Sydney and Professor Richard Garrett from ANSTO.

As the major science education event in Australia, CONASTA has an outstanding reputation for offering high-quality and stimulating professional learning experiences for science educators.
