Oil spills and mercury from artisanal goldmining are connected with some of the worst environmental disasters. Flinders University scientist Dr Justin Chalker and his team have discovered simple 'sponge' materials, made from recycled waste, to soak up these pollutants - in water, soil and even the air. Inventor Dr Chalker is trialling the materials in marine and mine sites with a view to rolling out the invention on a large scale to be used to prevent environmental disaster in future. Come and hear more.
